Equality, diversity, and inclusion in adult social care

Equality means making sure everyone has the same opportunities.

Diversity means respecting the differences between people’s beliefs, cultures, and lifestyles.

Good equality and diversity practices make sure that services are fair and accessible to everyone. They make sure that people are treated as equals, with dignity and respect. This is important for some adults who are not able to take care of themselves and keep themselves safe.

Every year we put out a report and an action plan on equality and diversity. We also have an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy that you can read.

Public sector equality duty

The Council has a duty to consider the diverse needs and protected characteristics of the people it serves. The Council must also make sure that organisations carrying out duties on its behalf, like our commissioned Adult Care services, also follow this.
