Direct payments for care services

How to get direct payments

You will need an assessment to see if you are eligible. A social care practitioner will meet with you to talk about what help you may need. Other professionals, such as nurses or occupational therapists, may be involved in the discussion too.

We take into account a government document called National Care Act Eligibility Criteria when we decide who is eligible to receive services. Children's services have a separate system for deciding who is eligible.

Make a care assessment enquiry

Your direct payment amount will be based on your needs identified in your social care assessment. It will not affect any benefits you receive. You don't need to pay tax on direct payments.

You might need to pay towards any care and support that you get at home and in the community. We will offer you a financial assessment to see how much you may need to pay. If you qualify for financial help from the Council, you will get a direct payment, minus the amount that you need to contribute.

You will need to open a separate bank account to get your direct payment.
