Ward plan

Providing vibrant, connected and safe neighbourhoods is a priority for Rotherham Council and communities are at the heart of everything we do.  Aston and Todwick Ward Councillors were elected to listen to your views and work with you to make a difference in the local community.

We know many of our residents are passionate about making their community a better place to live and we are here to work in partnership and make these improvements a reality.  Councillors used a range of information – listening to local residents and council staff, looking at statistics and other data – to develop these ward priorities:

Aston and Todwick Ward priorities

Priority 1: Developing and support initiatives around road safety and transportation

  • Improve parking around schools
  • Improve Red Lion Roundabout on A57 – A57 Todwick M1
  • Connectivity and Frequency of buses (Crystal Peaks)
  • Potholes, road and pavement repairs
  • Traffic calming

Priority 2: Opportunities to engage, improve and support local businesses

  • More shops and a Post Office (Todwick)
  • Better shopping and cash machine facilities at Todwick.

Priority 3: To develop and support initiatives around crime, community safety, particularly in hot spot areas

  • Concerns around burglary and car crime.
  • Police visibility.
  • More enforcement activity / visible presence to tackle Quad bikes.
  • CCTV.

Priority 4: To support and develop initiatives to improve the local environments e.g. community clean-up days or support for litter picking groups or improve green spaces

  • Weed management and frequency of grass cutting. 
  • Bins need to be emptied more frequently.
  • Reduce litter and fly tipping.
  • Better maintained green spaces
  • Improved playgrounds and sports facilities

Priority 5: To support initiatives to help and improve mental health, wellbeing, loneliness and isolation tenants/residents of all ages within the community

  • Older residents feel socially isolated.
  • More groups to support mental health.
  • More groups for men
  • Activities and support for children and young people both in Todwick and Aston
