Have your say on the investment in Play at Rother Valley and Thrybergh Country Park

Overview of the project

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the local community to shape the future of the play facilities at Rother Valley Country Park and Thrybergh Country Park.

As part of Rotherham Council’s commitment to enhancing local parks, £200,000 will be allocated to improve play facilities at Rother Valley Country Park and £120,000 will be allocated to improve play facilities at Thrybergh Country Park.

The work will take place in late summer 2025.

We want to hear your views on what you would like to see included and ensure that this investment reflects the needs and wishes of your children, grandchildren and our local communities.

This investment is part of a wider programme of improvements to provide children with safe, engaging, and inclusive play environments in the year of Children’s Capital of Culture. The funds will be utilised to improve play provision and ensure that  parks can continue to deliver fun experiences for children and young people.

The new play area will aim to:

  • Enhance opportunities for play at the park.
  • Promote physical activity by providing a diverse range of play elements to encourage more children to be active and engage in outdoor play.
  • Support learning and development; designs will make use of natural elements to stimulate the senses and encourage flexible, imaginative play.

Incorporate opportunities for inclusive play to maximise the opportunity for children of all abilities to enjoy the play area
