Media Enquiries
Our Communications and Marketing team handles all media enquiries and is available during the following hours:
Monday – Friday: 9:00am to 5pm
Closed on bank holidays
If you’re a journalist with an enquiry, please contact us at corporate.comms@rotherham.gov.uk or call 01709 212300 during working hours and 07385 555624 outside of working hours.
Non-media enquiries
If your enquiry is not media-related and concerns general council services, please visit our Contact Us page for a list of services and contact details.
Out of hours enquiries
We operate an emergency out-of-hours media service for major or critical incidents only.
For journalists only, outside of normal working hours please call 07385 555624 (phone calls only to the duty Communications Officer)
Routine media requests sent outside of working hours will be picked up the next working day from 9am.
How we handle media enquiries
- Council employees who are directly approached by the media are advised not to comment independently. Instead, they should direct all enquiries to the Communications and Marketing team, who will coordinate a response.
- There are some situations that we would not comment on, for example, individual cases, personnel matters or anonymous allegations.
- We aim to be open and transparent, and if we’re unable to provide a response to a query, we will explain why.
Response times
We require a minimum of 24 hours to respond to media enquiries. This allows us time to gather and verify information. We kindly ask for this timeframe to ensure that all responses are accurate.
How we can work together
Contact us for quotes: If you require a quote from the council, please reach out to us rather than using wording from our website without context.
Provide full details: The more information you give us upfront - including your deadline - the quicker and more effectively we can respond.
Keep us updated: If your story changes, is put on hold, or is no longer running, let us know as soon as possible.
