Your Tenancy Agreement

Your Tenancy Agreement is very important. It explains the terms and conditions of your tenancy and outlines the rights and responsibilities of both you and Rotherham Council. By signing it, you agree to follow these rules. If you share the tenancy with someone else, you both have the same responsibility to adhere to the terms and conditions of your agreement. For example, if you move out but your name is still on the agreement, you will still be responsible for paying the rent.

The Tenancy Agreement covers various aspects of tenancy, including the following:

  • Types of tenancies
  • Rent payment procedures
  • The process for reporting repairs and maintenance
  • Issues related to anti-social behaviour
  • Guidance for moving in and out of the property
  • Information about home improvements

As a tenant, you are expected to pay your rent on time, take care of the property, and respect your neighbours. In return, you have the right to live in a safe and well-maintained home, with Rotherham Council support available for any tenancy-related issues.

In April 2018 changes were made to the Rotherham Council tenancy agreement in line with Section 103 of the Housing Act 1985. As outlined in the Housing Act, you will always be informed before any changes to the Tenancy Agreement are made.
