Presiding Officers
Presiding Officers are required to work from 6:00am until approximately 11pm on polling day. Presiding Officers must have access to their own transport.
We have polling stations across the Borough and where possible, we will place a Presiding Officer near to their home address.
Duties include:
- Responsible for the setup of the polling station
- Supervise poll clerks
- Collect ballot box and equipment the Tuesday before polling day.
- Checking identification of electors attending to vote
- Make decisions on referred identification checks
- Support and assistant electors as necessary
- Deal with the special voting procedures
- Complete the required paperwork
- Transport the ballot box and equipment to the count venue immediately after the close of poll
Before polling day, all Presiding Officers must attend one of the in person training sessions.
Presiding Officers should have previous experience in the role or have been a poll clerk at least three times.
Payment for 4 July 2024 elections: £364
This includes payment for training, pre-election day admin and Statutory Holiday Pay at 12.07%
