Tackling Climate Change

How we aim to reach our targets

How we aim to reach these targets

We have identified seven areas of work to help us reach these targets:

Energy:

We will aim to reduce our energy use and use more energy from renewable sources. We will also work with others in the borough to do the same.

Housing

We will aim to make council homes more environmentally friendly, warmer and cheaper to heat. We will aim to support private owners and renters to do the same.

Transport:

We will aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our own fleet, and enable more options for environmentally friendly ways to travel in the borough. This can include providing more options to walk, cycle and take public transport, and expanding our electric vehicle charging network.

Waste:

We will aim to reduce, reuse and recycle more of our own waste. We will aim to support and encourage others in the borough to do the same.

Built and natural environment:

We will respond to the nature crisis and aim to make the whole borough cleaner and greener. This means planting more trees and wildflowers, and improving more of our green and urban environments.

Partnerships and engagement:

We know that we can’t achieve our goals alone, so we will engage with partner organisations, residents, businesses and community groups to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Rotherham.

Adaptation:

We will make sure we are prepared to deal with the current and future impacts of climate change, including flooding.
