Managing Rent Arrears and Rent Increases
Rent Arrears
- Talk to your tenant if they miss rent. They might have had a change in circumstances.
- Agree on a repayment plan they can afford to clear the arrears over time.
- If they can't afford rent now, plan for future payments when their situation improves.
- Discuss benefits and guide them to apply for Universal Credit. You can request their rent payment from Universal Credit be paid directly to you.
Rent Increases
- Follow the tenancy agreement, usually allowing one increase per year with proper notice.
- Check local rent prices to ensure your increase is fair and reasonable.
