Homelessness: Advice for social housing tenants

Advice for Council Tenants

If you are a Council Tenant with Rotherham Council, please use the below information to help answer your queries if you feel worried about losing your home.

Ending your tenancy

If you are a Council tenant and you decide to end your tenancy before approaching us for help, we may not be able to assist you, as you could have made yourself intentionally homeless. It is important that you speak to the Homeless Team before you make any decisions.

Rent arrears

Rent payments are a priority debt and the sooner you get in touch, the more likely it is that we can make an arrangement and avoid any further recovery action.

Anti-social behaviour

If you are experiencing anti-social behaviour, it is important that you speak to your Area Housing Officer who can offer you advice on the situation.

Eviction

If you have received written notice that we intend to evict you, then it is important that you contact the team on the letter to discuss it with them further. If you are in arrears, you may be able to set up a payment plan. If the eviction is because of anti-social behaviour, then we can discuss the eviction notice with you. We may be able to work with you to ensure that you stay in your home.
