You must provide 4 weeks’ notice to end your tenancy and the tenancy must end on a Monday. If you are giving notice on any day other than a Monday, we count the 4 weeks from the following Monday. We will write to you to confirm when the tenancy will end and which date you must hand in the keys and empty the property by.
Once you leave your council tenancy, you will need to re-join the housing register if at any time you need to apply for a new council property. If you would like to exchange, adapt or repair your home, or require support to maintain your tenancy, please explore the links in the directory to the right.
You must pay your rent, any service charges (if applicable), and Council tax until your tenancy has officially ended, even if you have already moved out and returned the property keys.
Please complete the below form to request to end your Council tenancy:
After requesting an end to your tenancy
After you have requested an end to your council tenancy, a member of our team will get in touch to confirm your identity and the details provided. Your 4 weeks’ notice does not begin until a member of our staff has confirmed your details with yourself and informed you of this.
We will also write to you to confirm when the tenancy will end, and which date you must hand in the keys and empty the property by.
