Aston Parish Council Hall - VE Day 80 Beacon Lighting

Burgoyne Park, 9pm – 9.45pm. Beacon to be lit at 9.30pm.

Clifton Park Museum, Rotherham*

Join Rotherham Museums, Arts and Heritage in commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day from 10am until 11am.

Victory in Europe (VE) Day marked the end of World War II in Europe. Join us for a special commemoration event in the Archives search room, where we will honour those who served, both on the front lines and at home. We’ll also explore how Rotherham has celebrated VE Day through the years.

Original archival materials will be on display and available for handling. To help preserve these valuable documents, no food or drinks be brought into the room. However, you’re welcome to visit the Walker Café before and after the event.

Harthill-with-Woodhall Parish Council presents a programme led by Harthill Village Voices:

  • 6:30pm Ringing of the Church Bells
  • 7:15pm VE Day 80 celebration in All Hallows Church
  • 8:30pm Music and Singing around the Village
  • 9:15pm National celebrations at The Beehive
  • 9:30pm Lighting of the Lamp of Peace VE Day 80 Tribute National Sing, ‘I Vow To Thee My Country.’ Followed by singing in The Beehive with Harthill Morris and Musicians.

Hellaby Parish Council and Community Group

Hellaby Centenary Hall, 8pm lighting of the beacon and toast to commemorate VE Day.

Laughton-en-le-Morthen Village Hall

7.15pm start for Pie and Peas Supper and Lighting the Beacon. Organised by Laughton-en-le-Morthen Parish Council, tickets £5 and include supper. Drinks and desserts available to buy. Brass Band playing all your favourites and beacon lighting will be as per national schedule, with appropriate wording and song.

Maltby Town Council lighting the beacon

Beacon to be lit at 9.30pm. DB Entertainment is booked for the event, along with a brass band. Music time tbc. Edward Dunn Memorial Hall Rotherham S66 7NQ.

Treeton War Memorial

Station Rd, Treeton, Rotherham S60 5PN. Time tbc. Commemoration at our War Memorial site on the evening of VE Day, including a flag raising. If it rains, we’ll be in the church next door.

Wales Parish Council Beacon Lighting at Red Hill

9.30pm. A Shared Moment of Celebration at Red Hill Beacon in Kiveton.

Wath Library and Neighbourhood Hub

10am until 4.30pm, Montgomery Square, Rotherham S63 7RZ.

Mobile library van (Rotherham Libraries and Neighbourhood Hubs) – children to become members of the library and choose a book from the van.

Wentworth Parish Council, Women's Institute and Wentworth Village Community Association

8pm until 10pm at Wentworth Village Car Park and Mechanics’ Institute.

The Beacon will be lit at 9:30pm in Wentworth Village Car Park.

Songs from the 40’s will be played as part of the celebrations from 8pm.

Whiston Parish Hall

Whiston Parish Hall are putting on a buffet, singer and entertainment from 12pm until 3pm. Tickets are £10 per person and available from Linda's Bakehouse.

We will also be flying the VE Day 80 flag from the Hall and lighting the "Lamp light of peace" outside the hall at dusk.

Brinsworth Indoor Street Party (with thanks to the Royal British Legion)

World War II Jeeps, 1940’s bus from South Yorkshire Transport Museum, vintage mangle and washing, vintage songs and singer. Volunteers wearing 1940’s costumes. Refreshment stall. Free entry.

Hellaby Parish Council and Community Group - Street Party

1pm until 4pm, street party and celebration to be held at Centenary Hall. Everyone welcome to bring their own picnic, war time music and clothing, free hot dogs and drinks.

6.15pm doors open, for 7pm meal and an evening of entertainment until 11.30pm.

Thrybergh Parish Council
