Apply for or renew a Taxi Driver Licence

How much does a driver's licence cost?

The cost of a new driver's licence is:

  • 1 year licence £152
  • 3 year licence £223

The above charges include the cost of the knowledge test (£32) and safeguarding training / assessment (£34) - additional fees will be payable if any of these elements need to be repeated.

There are other fees that applicants will need to pay to third party providers for services that are not administered by the licensing team (for example the practical driving test, BTEC / NVQ and the medical examination).

In addition to the above, applicants will also need to provide an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service.  This certificate MUST be applied for using a link that will be provided to you once we have accepted your application.  You will need to pay an additional fee for this (currently £70.50).

We will only accept a Disclosure Certificate that has been obtained using the link that we will send to you.

Renewal

The cost to renew an existing drivers licence is:

  • 1 year licence £86
  • 3 year renewal £157

This does not include the cost of a DBS certificate. Existing drivers are required to subscribe to the DBS online update service and so will not normally need to pay for a new check, however this may be required in certain cases and individuals will be informed if this applies to them (the charge for a new check to be carried out is £70.50 and must be obtained using the link that we will send to you).
