Laburnum Parade shops (No’s 1-8 Laburnum Parade)
The scheme sought to improve car parking provision at the shopping parade, to provide a seating area and enhance the landscaping of the wider green space.
Identified site issues
There was a lack of marked parking bays at the shopping parade, resulting in cars parking on both sides of the road and at times, over the kerb. This was creating highway and pedestrian safety issues.
It was also considered that the green space to the front of the shops could be improved to lift the appearance of the shopping area.
Details of proposal
The scheme sought to create a dedicated car parking area to the front of the shops. Footway improvements to the front of the shops were also proposed, as well as a paved and landscaped plaza, with seating.
The greenspace was to be improved through the provision of successional bulb planting and tree planting.
An informal crossing point was also proposed to improve pedestrian safety.
