Residents asked for their views on plans for local improvements

Our Places fund

Rotherham Council is seeking the views of local people on how best to spend funding aimed at improving Rotherham’s neighbourhoods.

The Council has allocated £2 million under the ‘Our Places’ Fund to enhance public spaces that are important to communities and inspire a sense of pride, with residents asked to give their views on projects they think will be most beneficial.

Following the consultation, monies will be allocated to a number of wards to make improvements to seating, footpaths, lighting and green spaces to enhance public areas for the benefit of local communities.

The ‘Our Place’ Fund consultation is now open and the Council is asking residents to fill out an online consultation form, which will be live until Sunday 17 November 2024.

The funding follows on from the success of the Towns & Villages Fund, a multi-million pound commitment from the Council which has delivered a range of improvements to local towns and villages across all wards of the borough since 2021.

Councillor Chris Read, Leader of Rotherham Council, said: “We want to hear from residents about the changes that will make a real difference to where they live - their views are integral to helping the Council focus on areas that are key in their communities.

“We are committed to encouraging every neighbourhood to become a thriving neighbourhood, so we’re particularly interested in hearing about village or local centres, or access into these, but we really want to hear ideas from across the borough.

"The feedback we get from residents together with our experience of working with local communities will undoubtably generate some exciting new projects.”

Anyone wishing to complete the online survey can do so by visiting www.rotherham.gov.uk/consultations.

Paper versions are available at all libraries in the borough, or can be provided by calling 01709 254444. People are also encouraged to provide photos of specific areas for improvement.

All responses to the online consultation form are anonymous, and any data provided will be handled in line with the Council’s privacy policy, which can be read in full at www.rotherham.gov.uk/privacy.
