This November we are running lots of fun events across Rotherham.

Rotherham Christmas Lights’ Switch-On

The Countdown to the start of the festive season is on, with just three weeks to go until we come together to welcome the festive season to Rotherham town centre.

The Christmas Lights' Switch-On event starts at 3pm, on Saturday 16 November and offers a great programme of live music, street theatre, gift market, workshops, a light installation from Pif-Paf and lots more. With the all-important lights' switch-on at 6pm by the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Sheila Cowen.

Remembrance Day and Armistice Day

Remembrance Parade

Rotherham will come together to remember its fallen service members from past and recent conflicts on Sunday the 10 November for Remembrance Sunday. This year’s event will start at 10.25am and once again be held within Clifton Park.

Armistice Day

The Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Sheila Cowen, will attend the service on Monday 11 November at All Saints’ Square in Rotherham and mark the two-minute silence on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Members of the public are invited to attend this short ceremony and join the two-minute silence.

Rotherham Theatres Pantomime

Robin Hood and his Merry Band are far from merry in this year’s Pantomime running from 28 November 2024 to 5 January 2025. 

The evil Sherriff of Nottingham has raised taxes yet again and the rumour is Maid Marion has escaped into Sherwood Forest with Penny and Peter, the Sherriff’s niece and nephew.  Robin has to inspire Friar Tuck, Little Jane and Will Scarlett to help feed the poor of Nottingham, rescue Maid Marion and save the babes in the wood.

Parkruns

Rother Valley parkrun in Rother Valley Country Park and the Rotherham parkrun in Clifton Park usually take place on Saturday's at 9am.

Please note that these are not Council run events but led by volunteers.

Rotherham Libraries

Rotherham Libraries host regular weekly activities across the borough such as: Lego clubs, Rhymetimes, computer classes, knit and natter groups, advice sessions, craft sessions, readers groups and local history groups.

Rotherham Museums

Marco’s Adventure Trail

From Friday 1 November a unique piece of land art has arrived, brought to you by Children’s Capital of Culture’s Plug in and Play Festival, inspired by the Our Habitats Our Home exhibition at Clifton Park Museum.

See if you can spot Marco the Bear and complete the trail Marco has created for you! Collect a map from Clifton Park Museum to follow the trail, or see the digital version here

Rotherham Markets 

Start your Christmas shopping of treat yourself to some delicious festive fayre at one of our annual festive markets held on Howard Street and Effingham Street.

Christmas Light Switch-on Christmas Market on Saturday 16 November from 10am to 6.30pm. Alongside Rotherham’s biggest festive event will be a wide range of Christmas stalls to get you in the festive mood.

Christmas Crafters Market on Saturday 14 December from 10am to 3pm. A fantastic variety of local makers, crafters, artists and bakers will showcase their gifts and goodies.

Christmas Gift Market on Saturday 21 December from 10am – 3pm. A hive of activity throughout, this is sure to be a magical family day with bargain gifts galore.
