Rotherham Council and partners will run learning events to support national Safeguarding Awareness Week (SAW24), from 18 to 22 November 2024. This year’s themes are Neglect and Working in Partnership.

During Safeguarding Awareness Week 2024, the Adults, Childrens and Safer Rotherham Partnership will be offering workshops, training and awareness raising events online and in person. The themes will encourage participants to consider how they can work together to establish safer cultures within workplaces and communities.

Safeguarding is about protecting children and adults from abuse or neglect and educating people around them to recognise the signs and report concerns.

These sessions cover a range of topics including suicide prevention, domestic abuse services and professional curiosity and will see the launch of the Childrens Neglect Strategy.

The sessions are aimed at frontline workers and volunteers from adult and children’s services. They are run by motivational speakers who are experts in their field and will stimulate discussion and help share best practice.

The Leader of Rotherham Council, Cllr Chris Read said: “We’re committed to giving every child the best start in life and ensuring every adult is safe and healthy. Safeguarding all our residents is essential to achieving this.

“This awareness raising week will create an opportunity to take stock of where we are, the challenges faced by some residents and how we can continue to keep people safe.”

Chief Executive of Rotherham Council, Sharon Kemp said: “Safeguarding is everyone’s business. We all have a duty to safeguard the wellbeing of children, young people and adults. Therefore I encourage everyone to get involved in the training sessions and awareness raising activity over the week.”
