Rotherham Council's Cabinet is set to approve further investment in SEND provision at its next meeting on Monday 16 December.

Children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in Rotherham are set to benefit from £2.5 million investment in services at Newman School if given the green light by Rotherham Council’s Cabinet.

Funding will enable the school to build a new primary block at its Whiston site, a hydrotherapy pool and to plan for further development of the Dinnington Campus.

It will increase the number of places for children aged 0-19 years of age who have special education needs from 160 to 195 pupils.

This will, in turn, reduce the need for placements outside the borough which remove children and young people from their communities at significant additional cost.

This is a great example of partnership working across local and central government with the school to improve educational opportunities within the borough which will benefit children and families across Rotherham.

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Service, Cllr Victoria Cusworth, said: “The Council is committed to helping every child and young person in Rotherham to fulfil their potential and I wholeheartedly welcome this investment into the facilities at Newman School. This funding will make a real difference to children’s lives, allowing them to access effective education close to their own communities.”
