Scaffolding permits
Please be aware that only a company may apply for a scaffolding permit and not a resident.
A fee is payable per scaffolding permit. The charges as of the 1st April 2025 are:
- scaffolding - £225.00 plus £50 per additional 4-week period.
Scaffolding requirements
- Standards must be white to first lift. (If relevant "wet Paint" Board must be provided)
- Minimum height of first lift (if walk through is required) is 2.5 m (8 ft.).
- Minimum width of uninterrupted footway to be 1.2 m, if less, then a temporary footway is required to be provided.
- Minimum distance between standards and edge of carriageway to be 450 mm (if less, cones etc. are required).
- A steady amber lamp is required at each end of the scaffold.
- If walk through is provided, then bottom lift must be close boarded.
- If required, brickguards and/or double toeboards should be provided.
- A plate bearing the name, address and telephone number of the scaffolding erector must be securely fixed to the scaffolding.
- The permit holder must inform Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council when the scaffold is to be removed.
- The permit holder must notify all statutory undertakers of his intention to erect the scaffolding.
- Tapping boards and handrails to be provided for the full length of scaffolding except for access point.
- Where necessary, debris netting may be required.
Notes:
- The scaffolding permit can be issued to either the main building contractor or a subcontractor, e.g. a specialist scaffolder.
- Whoever the permit is issued to is responsible for meeting all the conditions of the permit.
- If scaffold is found for which no permit has been issued, the person who erected the scaffold is responsible under law.
