Enquire about an Advisory Disabled Parking Bay or H-marking for your residence

Apply for 'H'-markings for your residence

The 'H' road marking is used to discourage other drivers from parking across or blocking your drive or property access road.

About 'H'-markings and the application process

'H'-markings are only advisory and are not legally enforceable by the Council or the police in the same way that yellow lines are. However, they have successfully prevented blocked driveways and access roads at many locations throughout Rotherham.

Restrictions

The Council will not supply this type of marking as a result of problem parking by a specific neighbour or a neighbourhood dispute (even if South Yorkshire Police have been involved). In these instances, the addition of any marking may increase the chances of confrontation between the two parties.

‘H’ markings are not provided where the dropped kerb is shared by two or more residents unless:

  • The Council receives written agreement by all residents that they are requesting the marking
  • Your property already has a properly constructed dropped kerb

The 'H'-marking will only usually be as wide as the existing dropped kerb.

Any provided 'H’ marking should not be used to reserve a private parking place on the road; 'H' markings are intended to ensure access routes to properties are unrestricted. Deliberate misuse of 'H' markings devalue the meaning of the marking in other areas, which can cause problems for other local residents. The Council reserves the right to remove any 'H' markings that it considers to be misused.
