Season and Day Fishing permits for Rotherham Country Parks

Ulley Country Park fishing rules and regulations

By purchasing a ticket, you are agreeing to the following rules:

  • The Country Park will be available to fish from 6am for anglers visiting on foot and 9am for anglers arriving by car without a key, and until 10pm or one hour after sunset, whichever is earlier. It is the angler’s responsibility to make sure they are not in the car park after it is locked if they do not have a key.
  • Anglers must only operate within the authorised fishing zones on one fishing peg at a time, failure to do so will result in a warning, revocation of their permit and/or ban from fishing at the park.
    • No re-imbursements will be given for any ticket cancelled due to non-compliance with the rules.
  • All anglers over the age of thirteen years old are to be in possession of a valid environment agency rod license and a day or season permit issued by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Councila.
    • Tickets and rod licenses must be produced on request of an Rotherham Council employee or Environment agency bailiff upon producing ID.
    • Season permits, day tickets, half day tickets, and/or any concessionary tickets are non-transferable.
    • Any angler under the age of thirteen years old needs to be accompanied by a parent or guardian with a valid fishing permit for Ulley Country Park.
  • Use of dead bait is permitted, the only live bait permitted is worms and maggots, the use of ground bait is permitted, use of remote-controlled bait boats is not permitted, lures must be no shorter than six inches (15cm) in length excluding hooks and fastenings, all hooks must be barbless or de-barbed.
  •  All fishing on this site is catch and release. Removal and/or killing of any species of fish, including trout, is strictly prohibited and any person found infringing this rule shall (without prejudice to the Authority’s rights under these regulations) have his or her current permit revoked, receive no further permit to fish, and may be liable to prosecution.
  • In the interest of Pike welfare, pike are not to be chin lifted.
  • Keep nets are permitted. Any Landing net or keep net must be of a knotless material and keep net bans maybe imposed from time to time at the discretion of the Ranger on duty or manager. Signs will be displayed on site should this be the case.
  • Anglers are not permitted to use more than three rods at any one time, more rods may be carried if they are not in use. Any angler using more than two rods must have two environment agency rod licenses, as per the law.
  • Landing nets and unhooking mats must be kept close to hand while fishing and used when landing and unhooking fish.
  • All anglers must be in possession of an appropriate unhooking tool and hook cutters.
  • As well as a fishery, Ulley reservoir is a country park, and consideration must be given to other park users and wildlife. It is the responsibility of the angler to ensure it is safe to cast in respect to walkers, authorised open water swimmers and those operating watercraft, as well as animals, both on land and in the water.
  • In the event of a dispute between park users, the ranger’s or manager’s (whichever is present) decision is final.
  • Anglers must not leave litter of any sort, including but not limited to, food packaging, discarded fishing line, hooks (intact or otherwise), or equipment.
  • Anglers are not permitted to wade into the water.
  • Anglers must not interfere with, damage, climb, or bypass any waterworks, fence, gate, banking, hedge or other barrier in the park.
  • In the event of extreme weather, including but not limited to iced over water or the air temperature being over 25 degrees celcius, the park management or Ranger staff reserves the right to cancel fishing for the day.
  • Boats and Float tubes are not allowed for fishing.
  • Anglers must have a valid parking ticket or permit displayed on any vehicle they arrive in which is parked in the country park. Tickets are available at parking machines and season permits are available from the café or online with the purchase of a fishing season permit.
  • Rotherham Council reserves the right to check anglers’ bags and/or equipment upon request.
  •  All persons shall observe the above regulations and without prior notice any amendments or other regulations that Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council may introduce from time to time for the preservation of fish, wildlife, purity of water, and the management of the country park.
  • Please note that sailing club operate within their own zone. Fishing matches may be planned with park approval. Existing fishing matches take place from October to March on Saturday s. These rules will be continuously monitored and updated when necessary.
