What is abuse?

Abuse is when someone does or says things to another person to hurt, upset or scare them. Abuse can happen anywhere, at any time.

Some adults find it harder to get help and may be more at risk of harm and exploitation such as those with:

  • a disability
  • a mental health condition
  • a temporary or long term illness
