Exceptions to the Premium Charge

Class I – Probate granted

Qualification Criteria

If the owner of a property has passed away and the property was or has become empty as a result, the property will be excepted from receiving an empty property premium charge for 12 months after the grant of probate/letters of administration.

If after 12 months the property remains empty the applicable premium charge will apply. However, you may be able to apply for a different exception to follow on from, or replace this probate exception. For example, marketing the property for sale, marketing the property for let or if the property is undergoing repairs.
