Finances
In all cases, rent is covered through the internal funding structure upon the young person’s 18th birthday.
Weekly Personal Allowance (PA) will be paid to the Young Person as detailed below. This is currently £57.90 This is the equivalent rate to Jobseeker’s Allowance and Income Support.
Weekly utility payments are set against the steps of the programme to promote independence and will also be reviewed each April.
Weekly budgeting takes into account main meals
Young People are expected to contribute weekly towards utility bills
Planning will take into account the Young Person’s financial management skills and use of a bank account.
Weekly Personal allowance will be reduced to take into account income earned through wages in accordance with current finance policies so as not to disadvantage Young People against their peers. This is considered not to be prohibitive and is intended to be constructive in promoting employment opportunities.
After taking into account individual assessment, weekly Personal Allowance may be reduced in circumstances where a Young Person refuses to engage with education, training or employment or services promoting their access. This is in line with financial policies which align with Jobcentre plus policies and procedures and aim to promote successful transitions to adulthood by not disadvantaging Young People against their peers.
